Network After Work Event Impressions

I’m currently looking for work in my field of expertise. A family member suggested I attend a networking event up in the city to make more connections. I was pretty satisfied with the experience that the national event group offered me that night.

Network After Work, according to the Twitter feed, is a “national business and social networking event company.” They seem to hold events so that working professionals can interact in a casual setting. This October, Network After Work held its San Francisco event at the Mighty club on Utah Street. Admission was $20 since I did not reserve ahead of time, and there was no drink minimum. The event even offered complimentary Subway sandwiches so people like me wouldn’t need to worry about actually having a meal later.
I managed to interact with a few colleagues in my field. Everyone was wearing nametags with specific colors associated with their fields of expertise. I picked the light green label because I want to search for people in the legal field. Though most of the crowd seemed to be engineers, there were a couple of legal services people. I talked with one attendee about the license deal Apple made with the Swiss railway company over a clock design in one of Apple’s tablet applications. I exchanged cards with a few more people that night. I just wish I had brought more of my own business cards to the event.
Overall, I thought the Network After Event was well worth my time. I took Caltrain up to San Francisco to converse with potential business contacts and just have a good time. I am looking forward to the next event in the city. Maybe I can meet some new people to hopefully find work.
