NPR Stories: December 15 - 21, 2013

With the holiday season ending, let’s go over some stories in the news. Winter is different depending on the region, but people still help as you can read in the reports about Syrian refugees and Brazilian children. For lighter fare, check out the story on Chicago deep dish pizza. Admittedly I have not eaten that style of pizza in a long while, possibly because it feels too indulgent. For the technologically oriented NPR also reported on Salinas agriculture getting an upgrade and a competition for robots.

Adventures of Tintin Review

I enjoy adventure movies. Star Wars and Indiana Jones, at least the older ones, hold up as great cinema inspired by pulp action films of a previous generation. Though I didn’t see it in theaters, I was curious when I noticed The Adventures of Tintin on the Netflix Instant Watch list. While I did not like the movie as much as its predecessors in the genre, it was still an entertaining and suspenseful adventure for the whole family.

Astronomy Pictures of the Day: December 15 - 21, 2013

I try to balance the content aggregation I collect with the original material. Before another movie review or trip report, let’s look at last week’s Astronomy Pictures of the Day. In this week the moon was in focus with two different pictures, and the week ended with some information about solar wavelengths to commemorate the winter solstice.

My Experience at a LAN Party

With the holiday season coming to an end, it’s about time that I update my blog. I was checking into the Steam holiday sale to get more trading cards, and I noticed I had not opened a Steam guide while in game. The last time I even launched a game through Steam was back in August at a LAN party. It was the first time I brought my own computer to that kind of event, and I figure I should share my experience with it.

NPR Stories: Week of October 27, 2013

Listening to NPR exposes me to stories in the news round the world. This week we have dancing in the Kiev subway stations, the struggles of the Roma, and two stories from Kenya. One involves protests against rape, and the other involves reasoning behind one Kenyan tribe’s dominance in the sport of running.

Day of the Devs Trip Report

This year November 2, also known as the Day of the Dead, fell on a weekend. Video game development studio Double Fine teamed up with iam8bit to put on a event comprising of video games, art, music, food, and general entertainment. Though I was not able to stay too long at the venue, I thought I would share my perspective on this fabulous festival.

Astronomy Pictures of the Day: Week of October 27, 2013

Too much time has passed since the last update. While I have been posting the Astronomy Pictures of the Day to Twitter, I have been aggregating the pictures on my own. Here’s the series of astronomy pictures from last week.
